Stan Rose, Ph.D. — President and Managing Partner

Stan Rose is a seasoned biotechnology executive, serial entrepreneur and investor in early stage companies.  He has created and/or grown several businesses involving commercialization of tools used by scientists for DNA analysis and genome research. Prior to forming Rose Ventures, Stan was CEO of NimbleGen Systems, a microarray company acquired by Roche in 2007 for $272 million.   Following the acquisition, he served as President of Roche NimbleGen.  Prior to leading NimbleGen, Stan co-founded and served as COO of Genetic MicroSystems, a microarray instruments company that was acquired by Affymetrix in 2000 for $280 million. Earlier in his career, Stan led the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) business for Perkin-Elmer during its most dynamic growth phase, both before and after the PCR business was acquired by Hoffman LaRoche.  Stan serves on the Boards of Directors of Cellular Dynamics International (stem cells) and NABsys (DNA sequencing).  He received his B.A. from Cornell University and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


Courtney Erickson — Associate

Courtney Erickson plays a key role in analyzing technologies and companies representing potential investment opportunities, gathering market information and developing competitive intelligence.  She established and maintains Rose Ventures’ proprietary system for tracking the firm’s pipeline of potential investment opportunities, advisory relationships and strategic partnerships.  She also manages the Madison office and provides operational support to the entire Rose Ventures team.  Her responsibilities at Rose Ventures have included consulting to a variety of clients including a multi-billion dollar international supplier of pharmaceutical, diagnostic and research products, a multi-billion dollar private equity firm, and an emerging company in the stem cell space.  Courtney is a scientist by training and has worked previously in laboratories at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Covance, Roche NimbleGen, and the Medical College of Wisconsin.   Courtney received her B.S. in Genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.


Greg McGuinness - Entrpreneur In Residence

Greg McGuinness, based in London, was previously responsible for Roche-NimbleGen's business in the EMEA-LATAM regions. Greg had been VP of International Business at NimbleGen prior to the company's acquisition by Roche in 2007. Earlier in his career, Greg played key roles in business and commercial development at several European life science tool companies including Gene Logic (acquired by Ocimum), Biotrin (acquired by Diasorin), HiberGen and British Biotechnology. From 1991 to 2001, Greg worked in the U.S. with Perkin-Elmer and Applied Biosystems (now Life Technologies), Stratagene (acquired by Agilent), and Genetic MicroSystems (acquired by Affymetrix). Greg holds a B.Sc. from University College, Dublin, DMS from Oxford Brookes University, and M.Sc. in Management from Trinity College Dublin - IMD Lausanne.
